Mood: too much coffee, jittery
Right now i want... the jittery part to go away.
So.
Yesterday, i was tired. all i wanted at the end of the day was to pick up some good food, a nice chilled bottle of wine, go home, watch my gilmore girls and one tree hill, and go to bed early. i wanted to relax, and i wanted to drift into sleep and wake up hopefully refreshed in the morning and ready to roll. i got off to a good start, i picked up yummy looking dinner, and great looking bottle of wine, i went home, i pulled into my parking space, went up to the door, unlocked it, opened it...
... and that's when Mr. Murphy and his Laws steped in and severly altered the course of my evening.
i said i needed heros. well, they came in various forms, and i'm sure if you ask them they didn't do anything heroic. however, the way i was feeling, i just needed some good old fashioned saving. i needed to be taken care of. happily enough, i was.
the people who live next door to me moved out this weekend. so, understandably, the utilites to their unit were going to be turned off. nothing shocking here. only PG&E, the electric company out here, TURNED MY POWER OFF INSTEAD OF THEIRS. they messed up, they turned off power to the WRONG UNIT!!! so i had no power! my computer was off, the clock on my stove was off, my refridgerator was off (ew), and most importantly, my tv wasn't working. after listening to really bad elevator music on hold for pg&e for too long, i talked to a very nice operator. admittedly, i was a bit snippy with her (who wouldn't be? they turned off my power) especially since it seems to be their policy that if you don't notify them you don't have power before 5pm, you have to wait until the next morning to get it turned back on. it's hillarious, the electric utility keeps bankers hours. i have to say, as an observation, i think this is the most patently absurd thing i have ever heard, but i digress, slightly.
i had a glass of my wine while we talked.
so. it was pretty much determined that i would not have power before my shows started. my apartment was quiet, except for puff yelling at me to pay more attention to him than to my phone.
i wasn't going to let a silly little thing like having no power stop me from seeing my shows though, damnit, i had a plan for my evening and i was going to make it happen. i started calling 3 of the 4 people who's numbers my phone knows, who were in town. none of them answered, i left messages. now, i say 3 of 4. that's right, there was someone i didn't call: my aunt. why, you're asking me, did i not go to the condo i have a key to? that undoubtably had power and satalite tv? because she is my mother's sister, and that whole tax thing happened last week. basically, if i called my aunt to say there was trouble, she would immediatly call my mom and my grandmother and tell them my power was out. my mom would then assume (as she does) that it was from some fault of mine, and i'd get another lecture. i was not in the mood for a lecture. so instead, i started calling my team mates in las vegas.
why did i call las vegas? see, i knew that andy was in town. i knew he was staying at my team mate dave's house. i didn't know his number.
now for my hero thank yous:
thank you to Helena for giving me Dave B's cell number, and for commiserating with me that PG&E is, indeed, stupid.
thank you to Dave B for giving me Andy's cell number, and for saying i could use his tv even if Andy wasn't staying there.
thank you to Andy for answering his cell phone, for saying i could come over and watch tv, for putting up with watching my shows, and making me laugh. his reward was an orkut invitation and my tiaramisu.
thank you to Chris for telling me how to call PG&E and get them to turn my power back on sooner than this morning.
thank you to Barb for answering her phone and making sure i was ok.
and thank you to Puff for being too cute to be truely mad around.
:)
by the way, Dave's house is really friggen cool, and has the crazyiest home theater system / library that i've ever seen in person. he has a projector. and a room full of dvd's. and a comfortable couch. need i say more?
i was in heaven.
... we had fun. i got home some time before 2, finished my wine so i could sleep, and drifted away....
now, back to our regularly scheduled reality.
