Right now i want... umm... that coffee is still sounding good.
yeay! barb's blog works! :) now you have a place to check and see what the hell i'm talking about ;) and other more interesting stuff. hehe, i should write down the name of that hotel, it really did kick ass.
i remembered something i was going to write about yesterday. there's a new study conducted on children about their eating habits. kids 3-7 months (yes, months, we're talking baby babies) were broken up into test cases; some got "sweet" formula, and some got "sour, yucky" formula. the researchers concluded the earlier a child was exposed to "yucky tasting formula" the more accepting of the bad flavor they became as they grew up.
they then conculded that in order to get children to like their fruits and vegetables, mothers should either eat those good foods while they're pregnant and breast feed, or people should start making formula with the "bitter" taste apparently associated with vegetables.
ok. my quick take: no shit, sherlock. 1) the study concludes that a child's eating habits are a reflection of the mother's eating habits, and the reason children are eating poorly are because their parents eat poorly. no shit. heaven forbid parents might actually be responsible for the eating habits of their children. i'm shocked, really, very surprised. hell, my mom told me when she was pregnant with me, she didn't eat tomatoes or onions. i don't like tomatoes or onions. or, rather, i'm learning to like them, they still have to be cooked, maybe some nice sauce, something. i'm not surprised. 2) how the _hell_ did they get the approval to make ginea pigs of BABIES! how did they get the approval to dictate what expectant mothers ate, and then fed their newborn children?! what about the kids who only got the sweet formula, who now will resist eating foods that are more bitter? do we just throw our hands up and say, "well, glad we're right, these kids are screwed?" i mean, you don't conduct a study like this unless you have some idea of it's outcome, they had to have some idea that young children respond to their envioronments and learn life long lessons and habits.... ugh.
the lesson that parents need to be responsible for their kids eating habits: good. the method: really shitty.
