Background Noise: the Space Between
Last website visited: the rounds
Mood: sleepy... need more coffee
Right now i want... to be more awake, have this insurace stuff straightened out...
ok: time to be serious. for all of you out there who don't know what the EFF: the Electronic Frontier Foundation is, please take a moment to their site, familiarize yourself with their mission, and work your way through their Action Center. In their own words, the EFF is:
"Based in San Francisco, EFF is a donor-supported membership organization working to protect our fundamental rights regardless of technology; to educate the press, policymakers and the general public about civil liberties issues related to technology; and to act as a defender of those liberties. Among our various activities, EFF opposes misguided legislation, initiates and defends court cases preserving individuals' rights, launches global public campaigns, introduces leading edge proposals and papers, hosts frequent educational events, engages the press regularly, and publishes a comprehensive archive of digital civil liberties information at one of the most linked-to websites in the world: http://www.eff.org."
today, the EFF has published a Patent Hit List, the top 10 patents that should be revoked by the US Patent Office. they have also introduced the Patent Busting Project aimed at stopping the rubber stamp that is the Patent Office, and the people and companies that are abusing them.
i urge you all to support the great work the EFF does.
also, speaking of which but not really, there is an article in eweek discussing Apple's Embracing of RSS and how it could speed adoption of the format. (Apple will also be supporting the Atom protocol). What i find interesting is, while everyone is bemoaning the big bad apple for dashboard and even spotlight, which they claim steps on the toes of open source and apple developers alike, no one is pitching a fit for those developers who make thier livings writing news readers.
for the record, i don't think Apple has stolen anything from Konfabulator or LaunchBar, or NetNewsWire for that matter. for the record. ;) let the tomato throwing begin.
ok... anything else for me right now...? :) i don't think so. i'm still pissed at my phone for not charging, it's so obnoxious. ooh, maybe i'll get thai for lunch... i'm SO out of it.... i rode upstairs with a girl from the 4th floor today... we had just both gotten our coffee and looked at eachother like "oh god if this doesn't work i'm screwed" :) hehe... it was pretty funny.
oh, i did forget. the U of M bash for WWDC is tonight in the city. i'm wavering on whether i want to go or not. i mean, i know it will be fun, and i know that people i miss from home will be there... but... i just have this feeling that i shouldn't go. that i should stay home and go see a movie. and i wonder, is this just me being anti-social, or is there someone here that i would be upset to see? my instincts are usually pretty good... i guess i'll just see how i feel when it comes time to leave. probably the best course of action.
