Background Noise: Work, Jimmy Eat World
Last website visited: the Official Goblet of Fire website. Cute.
Mood: get it done.
Right now i want... :)

So i want to use the Beauxbaton's Logo. i like it a lot. Actually, i shouldn't lay claim to it, since it's so perfect for Barb's blog.

Anyways, that was a wierd way to start a post.

I'm sorry i've been MIA recently. As i always say, i've been busy, a lot has happened, blah, blah, blah. Well, it's true: i have been amazingly busy, work is going very well, etc.

I've also been in a fairly retched mood, epecially since getting back from New York... a trip which seems more like a dream than reality. Honestly, if it wasn't so very evident that i was there from my bank book, i would be seriously questioning if it ever happened. So to everyone in california who have wondered or worried: i'm sorry i've been such a spoil sport; but my bad mood is likely to continue for some time.

You see, in the last year i've become very good at tricking myself into thinking i like living in california. The truth, however, is that i hate it. If i didn't love my job so much - and if i wasn't so sure that i have to be here now - i would be out of this state before you could ask me why.

Going to New York and living the life i want in the place i want with the people i want for such a tiny sliver of time just served as a painfully flagrant reminder of how much i am compromising for being in Cupertino. I know that sounds awful, and i sound ungrateful and like i'm pouting and being more dramatic than i should be. Honestly, leaving new york broke my heart; and as someone who's had her heart broken before, i'm pretty confident i can identify the feeling.

My timing could be better. I'm in a position where i have to be positive and motivating and diplomatic and i'm finding that increasingly difficult. Maybe all i need is a nap. I'm worried i need something more.

But speaking of how little time i have, i have to get back to work. This week has been mostly meetings and i'm off to another one.

:) By the way: i support Harry Potter in the TriWizard Tournament. And my thoughts on the Half-Blood Prince will be appearing here soon.

There there, Anne. Don't be down. I know you miss NYC, but life can be good here too. Let's do something fun this weekend. :O)

What is it you hate about living in California?

The things I like least about living here are:

1) I can't walk or take the train everywhere.

2) There are no seasons, only 'climate'.

But other that that I like it well enough. It sure beats living in the South!

sure, steve :) i want to see John anyways.

Mike: i see your lack of public transportantion and lack of weather and raise you:

1) Lack of Cultural Capitol or Potential
2) Lack of Sports Enthusiasts (Traditional: football, hockey, baseball)
3) Lack of Bars
4) Lack of general Social Life beyond work
5) Lack of quality housing
6) the Glut of High Priced Low Quality Housing
7) Let's face it: It's Suburbia
8) Everything closes around 8pm
9) You have to drive 15mins + to get anywhere or see anyone
10) City Planning: Let's have some. You don't know where you're going unless you've been there and know where you're going.

Granted, i love my job. but i just rattled that list of in 2 mins. I think the scales are a bit tilted towards the "not for me" side.

I can see a few of your points, but don't agree with others.

I personally am drowning in sports enthusiasts around here. I've recruited four people personally from the area into my fantasy baseball league (which existed long before I got here, for that matter), and I know quite a few football fans. The three sports you mention are hugely popular here.

Funny that you mention the housing issues. I know people who left NYC in part precisely because housing is so crappy in NYC: Crappy quality, even higher prices than we have here, etc. etc.

It took me a while to get used to having to drive everywhere. I've been fortunate to be able to buy a house almost exactly where I want to live, which cuts down on the driving for me (I think I average about 180 miles per week).

I grew up in the suburbs, so maybe I'm just used to it. I find the valley itself to be rather bleak and flat, but I like the peninsula just fine.
