For Kathy, who just found out Dumbledore bites it at the end of book 6, i offer some suggestions. Reread:

1) Chapter 2: Spinner's End. Pay very close attention to what Snape says, doesn't say, and especially how he paints Harry.
2) Chapter 27: The Lightning-Struck Tower. Pay attention to what Dumbledore says to Draco and to Snape. Also to the action of the Avada Kadavra curse - especially in comparison to it's effects historically.
3) Chapter 28: Flight of the Prince.
4) Now, read the book again knowing how it ends.

Time for some commentary. It's not all perfect, and the list certainly isn't complete, but here's a good start at Book 6 analysis.
