Pretty slick, indeed

Random Thought: why are demos always at 2?

The Reluctant Debutante is playing at the Stanford tonight and i hope to make it to one of the showings. I first saw this fun little piece of fluff last year after discovering it was the (sortof) basis for What a Girl Wants which i have to admit i really liked. It's fun and worth my $6 if i have time.
Elsewhere in movie news, Salon.com says "that [Transporter 2] can run on empty and still be so obscenely enjoyable is a pretty slick stunt in itself." That sounds good enough for me! i was looking for some blow-em-up escapist fun.
Now to completely change the subject...
To address the horrific incidince of rape in South Africa Sonette Ehlers developed a "rape trap" for women to wear internally for protection. From the article, "the device, concealed inside a woman's body, hooks onto a rapist during penetration and must be surgically removed." See the article for a picture of what this... means.
There are those who call this device barbaric. I would counter that rape by definition is barbaric; and if a man is trying to rip a woman to shreds she has every right to rip him right back. There are those who claim that wearing such a trap would cause the rapist to kill the woman (i mean, how dare she try to fight back?) but i could counter that, to put it delicately, these guys will be in too much pain to do the woman any further harm.
And at 20 cents a piece, they sound like a fabulous idea to me. How about this for international policy: pass them out to women in Africa, the Middle East, Asia - everywhere where rape is "part of the culture" as the media likes to reports. Let's see how fast the incidence of rape drops when guys have to wonder if they'll get caught in one of these traps.
