So Many Rows and Columns
Background Noise: It's All Been Done, BNL
Last Visited:Aperture, of course! Well, not really. But i'm pushing it anyways!
Random Thought: Capitan Jack had it right, all treasure isn't silver or gold.
Mood: General befuddlement mixed with a cultural geek's delight.
Have you ever watched a whole movie on fast forward? That's kindof how i feel right now, though it has nothing to do with the movies. I just went through an obscene amount of email from this last week that i was away... and i have to say, that is an odd trip to take. Though i suppose it fits nicely with the general disorientation i feel now that i'm back in California. Home and here are two very different, very separate worlds that aren't simple to move between, though i suppose i'm getting better at navigating the divide.
I have to wrap this up, but i'm going to finish with a few (very) random thoughts, though they all basically revolve around entertainment (books, movies, puzzles). Enjoy. Or not. Either which, really.
1) Do you recognize this diagram?

Ok, so i cheated and gave you the name of the game in the picture, that isn't the point. I have to admit that i hadn't even heard of Sudoku until last week at Barb's cottage; but i was hooked in 10 minutes. We literally spent the majority of our time figuring this delightfully wicked puzzle game. If you haven't played yet and are prone to crosswords, text twist, or other such logic games think long and hard before you dabble in this one: i pretty much promise you won't be able to stop. You've been warned.
If, on the other hand, you are hopelessly addicted, there are plenty of dealers online to feed you habit. Just ask Google, they'll point you in the right direction.
2)
Solomon vs. Lord
I actually managed to pick up a fabulously entertaining book at Detroit Metro of all places - Solomon vs. Lord by Paul Levine. Funny, sexy, and smart with a kaleidoscope of colorful characters, this 500+ pager flew by... and i can't wait for the sequel The Deep Blue Alibi in January.

3) Vanity Fair's Early Pride and Prejudice review:
Austen has been done justice before on-screen, but rarely if ever has she been as moving.
Behind the scenes Video Clips featuring the production team give me even more hope of a worthy big-screen adaptation of one of my favorite books of all time.
4) Sort of speaking of which but not really, there's a deliciously detailed summary of Goblet of Fire over at Mugglenet.
5) Something to Ponder
If you had the opportunity to pay $300 for unlimited movies for a year, would you do it? It seems the Birmingham Palladium and Uptown 8 are offering residents just this chance - $100 for unlimited movies for 3 months, $200 for 6 months, and $300 for a full year. I for one would jump at the chance... can you imagine? Using birthday or christmas money and being able to walk into as many movies as you want as often as you want for the next year without having to worry if you can afford the $10/ticket? Financially this deal makes sense for any moviephile as well as the theaters... of course, if you really went whole hog with the unlimited part you'd screw over the MPAA, but hey, that's just an added bonus.
As far as i can tell the Century Theaters out here haven't realized what a fabulous deal this is - talk about a great way to lock customers into your theater with extra money for popcorn - but i'm seriously considering emailing them and suggesting a similar plan. I know i'd put up the money, and i'm pretty sure other's would too.
Ok, time for me to get back to work. Or tea... maybe i'll get some tea first. See? i'm out of it. But at least i have fabulous shoes on....
Oh, by the way, the colors in Michigan while i was home were so beyond stunning i am now a full fledged leafer. I don't have my pictures yet, but it looked a lot like this:
